15 ans après, ils vont remettre ça, j'espère que ça sera à la hauteur, mais j'ai assez confiance : Quality technical metal connoisseurs and open-minded music lovers in general will be delighted to hear that Florida's legendary CYNIC have returned to creative power after a successful European re-union tour in the summer of 2007 and will soon be recording a new album, their second after 1993's genre-shattering "Focus" debut. CYNIC founding members Paul Masvidal (guitars / vocals) and Sean Reinert (drums), who both gained reputation and praise while performing alongside Chuck Schuldiner and DEATH in the recording and touring lineup for the milestone album "Human", are currently in Sanford, Florida, working on the mix for three new demo tracks together with producer Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, CHIMAIRA, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, DEVILDRIVER, etc.) at his own Audiohammer Studios. The three new tracks are entitled "Integral Birth", "Evolutionary Sleeper" and "Adam's Murmur", but Masvidal and Reinert have already written a full album's worth of new material and the band will use the demo to begin talks with record companies about a 2008 release. Masvidal comments, "I'm amazed that we're here again, and that is a testament to the unpredictable beauty of the creative process. We received so much inspiration during last summer's reunion tour that a flood of new material has since poured out of us. There must be a default metal root in us from childhood that insists on being watered and loved, so we're just trying to keep up with ourselves — the CYNIC sirens are screaming inside and won't let up! Our policy has always been about surrendering to what feels most organic and staying in the flow. To put it mildly, this last year has been a creatively abundant and productive period. Sympa, ça, j'aime bien Focus. Paradoxalement, je n'arrive pas à retenir la moindre note de cet album, mais je trouve ça hyper agréable à écouter. |

Perso, je trouve ça hyper chiant, une sorte de death jazz en gros..tellement compliqué que j'en retiens rien, ce qui me rebute totalement. |

Fantastique !! Il fallait s'y attendre après la reformation, et le titre joué live lors de la dernière trounée était tres sympa ( evolutionary sleeper). Si ça peut vous rassurer, ça fait 11 ans que j'écoute Focus et je n'y comprends toujours pas tout. Et encore, les démos sont pires. |

Je comprends mieux pourquoi j'aime pas Cynic alors... 
Mais, à part le fait que ce soit un groupe culte, hyper original et hyper novateur, y'a quoi de bien dans ce groupe ? J'aimerais com-prendre justement. Le "chant" ? Les "riffs" ? Le son ? La technique ? L'ambiance ? |

@ fishbowlman :Ce qui fait l'originalité de ce disque c'est déjà l'époque ou il est sorti, le métissage des genres( Metal/Jazz/Musique latine...), les qualités techniques de ses musiciens, son ambiance et son concept uniques pour moi. Et oui le chant vocoder dans le Metal,moi j'en avais pas entendu avant. En général ça reste quand mem un groupe de zicos

Du chant vocoder dans le metal? Ben écoute le deuxième album des français de WARNING, sortit en 1982... Et il doit y avoir d'autre exemples. |

@Drunkounet : je pense que Davidounet ne te demandait pas de t'expliquer le pourquoi de l'originalité de Focus. Il t'interrogeait en fait sur le reste. Okay, c'est un groupe culte, original et novateur, bon, soit. Mais la question est : "et à part ça ?", "qu'est-ce qui fait que ce n'est plus seulement intéressant mais carrément bon et passionnant ?" Et là, moi qui aime bien Focus, je sais pas trop quoi répondre. C'est vrai qu'on retient rien et qu'il ne s'y passe foncièrement pas une masse de choses. Alors ? Pourquoi qu'c'est bien ? J'en sais rien. Pitié, réponds à cette terrible énigme. |

Ben, ça va rejoindre le sondage de theshaman, l'ambiance joue beaucoup. Y'a un côté très léger, aérien, qui fait que c'est agréable à l'oreille malgré toute la complexité et l'apparente lourdeur de la chose. J'sais pas, ça me relaxe d'écouter cet album, j'suis ailleurs quoi (et en live c'était juste magique). |

Pareil que Muscu! Cynic, c'est "joli". Léger, fluide, aérien, planant, ce qui est presque paradoxal pour une musique aussi technique. J'imagine que c'est ce que DS reproche au groupe en disant que c'est mou. Mais moi, c'est justement ça qui me plait chez eux. |

Y'a aussi le fait que ces ptits fumiers aient pondu un seul ovni et se soit barrés pendant si longtemps. ça rajoute beaucoup au mythe, ça et le fait que Masvidal et Reinart se soient fait connaitre avec Human ( du genre mais qui sont ces extra-terrestres? vont ils faire un album ?). Ensuite le côté "mystique" des paroles ne fait que renforcer la singularité du disque ( même si ça sent tres fort le mahavishnu orchestra j'en conviens et que c'est pas évident de rentrer dedans). Enfin tout ceci reste tres subjectif, mais cet album m'a ouvert quelques portes musicales non négligeables. |

Reunited progressive metallers CYNIC — whose 1993 album "Focus" is regarded as a landmark release in the field of technical/progressive metal — have set "Traced In Air" as the title of their new album, due on October 27 via Season of Mist Records. Returning from the "Focus" era for the new eight-song, 35-minute effort are are founding members Paul Masvidal (guitars/clean vocals) and Sean Reinert (drums) along with Sean Malone (bass), and joining the band in the studio is newcomer Tymon Kruidenier (guitars/growls). The band recorded the effort at a California studio with producer Warren Riker (DOWN, SANTANA). A two-and-a-half-minute trailer for "Traced In Air" can be viewed below. CYNIC is about to kick off its first live dates in Europe, to be followed in November/December by a direct support slot on the OPETH European trek. The band has also been announced as the headliner for this year's ProgPower Europe festival, and will be playing a special extended set at the show. Guitarist/vocalist Paul Masvidal previously stated about the new CD: "We've been on an amazing journey discovering this new music and soon it will be yours. Expect the unexpected. The album is an intensely concentrated mosaic of internal and external energies, from the deepest peace to the purest aggression. There's an acquired taste that comes with a record of this density, but once your ears wrap themselves around the language at work, everything falls into place and suddenly you'll feel a sudden urge to sing, scream or maybe even cry. The album has a beginning, middle and end. The story will reveal itself after numerous listens and then you may not want to let go. Besides Reinert and I, Tymon brought some new life force and magic to the record with fierce growling and poetic guitar sensibilities. Malone also did a fine job with the low end, grooving away with Reinert in a pocket land from hell!
