Los Angeles thrash masters SLAYER are preparing to enter the studio to begin recording the long-awaited follow-up to the band's acclaimed 2001 release, "God Hates Us All". According to Revolver magazine, SLAYER guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman are currently finishing up the lyrics, which will surely be as scathing, misanthropic, and controversial as anything SLAYER have written. One of Hanneman's songs may even address the attacks of 9/11 from the terrorists' perspective. "We're SLAYER, dude," King told Revolver. "We have to be dangerous."

Although nothing has yet been officially confirmed, King had previously told Metal Hammer magazine that he was hoping the band would once again work with producer Dave Sardy, who had previously produced SLAYER's tribute to the great punk bands of the '80s, "Undisputed Attitude". "[Dave] Lombardo wants Rick Rubin for drums, and I've no problems with that because, in my opinion, it's what he's best at. But I think we're all pretty much agreed that the overall producer will be Sardy," King was quoted as saying.

SLAYER's upcoming album will surface on American Recordings' new home, Warner Bros., sometime in 2006.

Depuis le temps que l'on attend ça, les rois du thrash extreme sont de retour et ça risque de pas faire semblant.
De plus King Lombardo est de retour derriere les fûts, si ils reviennent au son et aux compos de la grande époque, je change de slip pour chaque chansons.

C'est confirmé et ça fait chier. J'aime pas le son qu'ils ont avec SARDY. Et ils n'ont jamais aussi bien sonné qu'avec RUBIN. LOMBARDO est un sage.

Est-il utile de préciser que j'attends le nouvel album avec impatience (euphémisme) ?

Ce serait pas mal qu'ils sortent un très bon album. Ca confirmerait les bonnes choses entrevues sur "GHUA". Selon KING & ARRAYA, le nouvel album se situerait "entre GHUA et Seasons" sans précision complémentaire.

J'espère juste qu'ils ne vont pas me décevoir. J'ai encore le souvenir tragique et ému de DIABOLICUS.

SLAYER est entré en studio à Los Angeles mardi dernier. Le successeur de "God Hate Us All" (sorti en 2001), dont on ne connait toujours pas le titre, comprendra onze morceaux décrits par Kerry King comme un "festival de riffs". Rick Rubin en sera le producteur exécutif et c'est Josh Abraham (VELVET REVOLVER, STAIND) qui poussera les manettes. Kerry King a également déclaré que la majorité des nouveaux morceaux ont été écrits il y a plus de deux ans, qui les avaient joués maintes fois en répétitions et qu'ils espéraient par conséquent boucler l'enregistrement en seulement quatre semaines! Par ailleurs le groupe commencera une tournée de deux mois aux USA le 6 juin prochain en compagnie de MASTODON, LAMB OF GOD, CHILDREN OF BODOM et THINE EYES BLEED

Je trouve l'ordre bizarre. A mon sens, LAMB OF GOD est bien moins important que CoB et MASTODON. J'aurais plutot vu un quarté dans l'ordre : SLAYER - CoB - MASTODON - LAMB. Ca doit être encore une histoire de gros sous, de public ricain, et de ventes de skeuds.

Faut que je pense à chercher sur le Net des Bootlegs cet été, avec un peu de chance on aura droit à des avant premières du prochain album. Oui, on peut rêver. Sinon il y a des rumeurs que SLAYER passe en France aussi mais vers le mois d'octobre, et je pense pas que ce sera avec la même affiche.

Un dernier commentaire : la tournée US est très très dense, et franchement chapeau à SLAYER à 40 berges d'enchainer autant de dates.

SLAYER frontman Tom Araya spoke to MTV.com about the group's follow-up to 2001's "God hates Us All", tentatively due late July. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Cult", "Catalyst", "Catatonic" and "Jihad". At this stage, seven weeks into recording, five of the album's 11 tracks are finished and about to be put through the mixing process. SLAYER still need to put the finishing touches on the remaining songs, but Araya expects the band will be finished with everything in the next week or so.

"This album is actually like a culmination of everything we've done," Araya said. "There's one song that I'm thinking will surprise everybody, because of the song itself. I'm not going to say why, because you have to keep that element of surprise, dude. Musically, it's going to blow everybody away. It's going to trip everyone out. It has all the elements of everything we've done. No one's going to be disappointed with this record. It's fast, heavy — maybe faster than anything we've done before. It's going to be brutal. It's what everyone expects from a SLAYER record."

A track called "Eyes of the Insane", Araya said, is perhaps the most political song on the album. The song was inspired by an article he'd read in an issue of Texas Monthly magazine.

"The song's about the effects of war on some of these soldiers," he said. "This article — and it was a pretty trippy article — it really affected me. The entire magazine was devoted to soldiers of this new Iraq conflict that's going on. The effect that the war has had on some of these kids who're coming home and having a tough time dealing with what they've seen — I mean, some of these kids are traumatized and mentally destroyed by what they've seen. The magazine also ran an entire list of the soldiers from Texas who've died. It was several pages with pictures of these kids. It blew my mind."

The trek will instead kick off June 15 in Camden, New Jersey, and run through July 26 in Denver.
