Titres longs ou pas, un disque d'une heure quinze ne m'emballe pas du tout. Mes titres préférés de Dance of Death sont les plus longs, mais je ne pourrai pas en écouter un album entier. De plus, j'imagine mal les déçus des deux précédents albums trouver tout d'un coup le groupe intéressant sur une telle durée. Maiden a fait ses classiques à l'époque du LP, en comparaison ce disques est un double !

D'accord à 100% avec Zig. Et c'est un Progueux qui parle... Non, sérieux, se concentrer plus de 3/4 h sur un CD ce n'est pas évident, ne serait-ce que pour avoir le temps de le faire sans 'interruptions'. J'en arrive à me demander si ce n'est pas une exigence que de remplir au max un CD, et de qui elle vient...

Encore une fois The X Factor est archi-rempli mais il s'écoute d'une traite. J'arrive parfaitement à me concentrer dessus pendant toute sa durée. C'est vrai que trop de longs titres (surtout s'ils sont moyens) ça peut saouler vite, mais ils se basent sur le expérience de Paschendale.

Sinon le groupe a eu droit à 3 articles dans un journal suédois (Aftonbladet).

Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet has posted three articles on Iron Maiden and their upcoming album - one where the band members talk about how smooth the recording went, one that describes the new album and one account of the bands' reactions while watching England playing Sweden in the world cup.

The first article consists of quotes from different band members mixed with typical journalist's filler comments. Steve Harris says the recording went so easily "It felt like something was wrong". Allegedly, during the whole recording process there was not a single fight or heated argument, due to the band being more harmonic than ever.

Or, as Steve puts it, "Nicko knew the songs much better this time. On every record I usually have a fight with Nicko over arrangements and such. This time we didn't have any and it made us worry." Says Nicko: "I think it's a lot because I've been more mature this time. I have taken into consideration what the song needs, not what I'd like to play"

During the making of Dance of Death, however, the fights were much more plentiful. "It went so far we stood shouting at each other", says Nicko. "I was so angry we almost started fighting."

Steve also explains the thoughts behind the new album's title, A Matter of Life and Death: "Six, seven songs on record circles around war and religion. Religion has caused more death, pain and misery than anything else. And we never seem to learn. Unbelievable."

Regarding the future, Steve is more doubtful. "From the beginning I've said Maiden will make fifteen studio albums. In that case there's only one left and that makes me sad. There is a life after Maiden. And there's a lot I'd like to do I don't have time for now. Sure I'd miss the band, but there's no reason to live in the past. We'd probably piss off some people if we quit, but the day we don't want to do it anymore it's over."

Aftonbladet also got to listen to Maiden's new album and describes it in the second article. There's a lot of empty words in it but summing it up, here's what it says:

- If you liked Brave New World and Dance of Death, you'll be happy with it.
- The band continues on the progressive road and the music often switches between soft and hard.
- The big arrangements and complex structures of the last albums return.
- "Out of the Shadows" is said to sound a bit like Children of the Damned and Bruce's classic solo number Tears of the Dragon.

Ce qui fait chier c'est l'annonce de la possibilité de fin du groupe après le 15ième album. Les gars vont de plus en plus nous en parler c'est évident...

Et j'ai hâte d'écouter Out Of The Shadows .

Fais comme moi, attend une promo. Dance of Death doit être le seul Maiden que j'ai payé plus de dix euros... et encore, je l'ai vu à 8 euros à peine un an après sa sortie.

j'ai toute confiance en Maiden, j'acheterais ce disque les yeux fermés sans me poser de questions!!!!!!!!!!

J'ai une relative confiance en Maiden, mais ça ne m'empêche pas de ne pas apprécier les signes donnés par le peu d'informations dont on dispose. Chez un groupe auquel on reproche depuis longtemps de trop rallonger artificiellement ses titres à coups de refrains agaçants, un titre long n'est pas ce qui se fait de plus optimiste. On peu douter de leur inspiration sur la durée, que ce soit les 7 minutes d'un morceau "épique" ou l'heure passée de l'album. Tout ce que l'on peu dire pour l'instant avec une marge d'erreur infime, c'est qu'on va se prendre un album-mégalithe dans la gueule, mais on ne peu pas encore deviner si ce sera avec douleur ou émerveillement.

De toute façon on l'achètera tous ;) , personnellement je m'attend à un album assez riche et progressif, un espèce de dance of death mais en plus alambiqué
J'espère seulement que la qualité sera au rendez-vous mais bon ca ne sert à rien de trop spéculer, faut tout simplement attendre la sortie de l'album!

T'as de l'espoir sinon, il a intéret a être un minimum bien, ya trop de sorties intéressantes pour que j'aille m'aventurer sur un Maiden foireux aujourd'hui...

Je suis fan de Maiden, je vois pas comment je pourrais ne pas aimer!!!

Y a Smith donc y aura certainement de bonnes choses. C'est la seule chose dont je peux être sûr.

1er single : The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg


IRON MAIDEN recently spoke exclusively to the U.K.'s Kerrang! magazine (web site) about their upcoming 14th studio offering, "A Matter of Life and Death", due in September. The CD was recorded at Sarm West Studios in London with producer Kevin Shirley, who also worked on the last two MAIDEN albums, 2000's "Brave New World" and 2003's "Dance of Death".

"'Brave New World' and 'Dance Of Death' were both good records," frontman Bruce Dickinson told Kerrang! "But they weren't anywhere near as good as this one! This one is 'Dance of Death' without the effort. This whole album feels effortless. It's like driving a big, gas-guzzling motor car. You just put your foot down and there's limitless power under the bonnet."

"It's been unbelievable," added bassist/founder member Steve Harris. "We booked the studio for three months and we finished the whole thing in two. I think the preparation was good. We didn't have the rows we usually have! We really focused on each song and it was a very positive experience."

"The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg", which will be the first single to be taken from the record, is described by Kerrang! as "an intricate seven-minute epic that starts with a creepy, ominous intro before erupting into a crushing, almost LED ZEPPELIN-esque riff and a powerful, emotive chorus."

"It's very different for us." admitted Harris. "It's very riffy. The intro has an almost nursery rhyme eeriness. Sometimes you try to create a mood and sometimes it's just there. Everyone's going to ask who Benjamin Breeg is, but you'll just have to find out for yourself!"

With regards to whether "A Matter Of Life And Death" marks a fresh lease of life for MAIDEN, Harris said, "Five years ago we were thinking about possibly retiring at this point, but now we're at this stage there's no way! Why should we? I don't know why, but I always had it in my head that we'd do fifteen studio albums, so we've got at least one more to go!"
