According to Pause & Play, Geffen Records has set a November 29, 2005 release date for the long-awaited (euphémisme...) GUNS N' ROSES album, "Chinese Democracy".
"Chinese Democracy" will feature the band's first new music since "Oh My God", the group's contribution to the soundtrack to the 1999 movie "End of Days".
GUNS N' ROSES' last studio album was a covers CD, "The Spaghetti Incident?", which was released in 1993.
In March 2004, Geffen Records issued a GUNS N' ROSES "Greatest Hits" album, which has since gone on to sell 2,195,937 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
GUNS N' ROSES singer Axl Rose and fellow original members Slash and Duff McKagan tried to block the "Greatest Hits" album's release by arguing in a lawsuit that Geffen Records was putting out the CD without their input. Geffen officials countered that they wouldn't have released the album if Rose had delivered the long-promised album "Chinese Democracy", which has been in the works for 10 years.

Ben disons que Geffen a bien précisé l'année 05, mais pas le siècle....
Sinon, comme dans la rubrique musique y a pas grand chose à se mettre sous la dent, la rubrique faits divers est plus croustillante.... Jugez-en plutot :
The following is courtesy of Jennifer Vineyard and MTV News:
It's been over a decade since the original members of GUNS N' ROSES went their separate ways, but their feud is still going strong.
Slash and Duff McKagan filed a federal lawsuit in Los Angeles on Wednesday (August 17th) against Axl Rose, accusing the GN'R frontman of changing the publisher of the group's copyrighted songs without their consent and pocketing the royalties.
The lawsuit follows Rose's multimillion-dollar publishing deal with Sanctuary earlier this year, in which he sold the publishing rights to the GN'R back catalog. "Suffering an apparent attack of arrogance and ego ... Rose recently decided that he is no longer willing to acknowledge the contributions of his former partners and bandmates in having created some of rock's greatest hits," the lawsuit reads.
Though the Sanctuary deal was reported on by the press, Slash and Duff claim they weren't aware of the scope of Rose's dealings — which they say he "omitted and concealed" — until their expected royalty payments for the first quarter of 2005 didn't arrive in the mail. "When the ASCAP check didn't come, we called and they looked into it," McKagan's lawyer, Glen Miskel, said. "We didn't know all the facts at first."
Miskel said that only last week did they discover that Rose had notified ASCAP on or around May 26 that he was switching over the publishing from Guns N' Roses to Black Frog Music Publishing (which he owns) and Kobalt Songs Music Publishing (which is a joint venture with and handles the administration of Sanctuary's publishing). Consequently, the ASCAP check for the first quarter of 2005 — some $92,000 — went to Rose and "his accomplices" instead, the lawsuit contends.
"Rose's actions were malicious, fraudulent and oppressive, and undertaken in conscious disregard of [Slash and Duff's] property rights," the lawsuit reads. They're seeking damages for fraud, copyright infringement and breach of fiduciary duty, among other things.
Sanctuary didn't return calls for comment.

Quel gachis....

En guise de vœu pour 2006...
According to a posting on the GUNS N' ROSES fan site Here Today... Gone to Hell!, former GN'R and current VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash was interviewed on the WMMR radio station in Philadelphia on Friday (Dec. 30) and he said that he can't wait to hear Axl Rose's new GUNS N' ROSES record in March. The host asked him if he meant that "Chinese Democracy" is coming out in March, to which Slash replied that he's been told many things over time, but this time it really sounds like it's coming out. He also believes the album is done.
Par contre il faut que ce soit Slash qui donne l'info...

Launch Radio Networks reports: Although former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash told a Philadelphia radio station two weeks ago that he heard a March release date was on tap for the long-delayed new GUNS album, the band's management has told Launch that no release date has been set. Slash said that he had learned about the March date from sources inside the GUNS camp. A management spokesperson said that the new album, titled "Chinese Democracy", "is coming," but its official arrival date has yet to be determined.

Axl a parlé, ça va sortir cette année,
GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose spoke to a Rolling Stone reporter at KORN's tour announcement bash at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in the early hours of Saturday morning (Jan. 14). The following are several excerpts from the article, which can be read in its entirety at RollingStone.com:
On the long-awaited new GUNS N' ROSES album "Chinese Democracy":
"It's a very complex record. I'm trying to do something different. Some of the arrangements are kind of like QUEEN. Some people are going to say, 'It doesn't sound like Axl Rose, it doesn't sound like GUNS N' ROSES.' But you'll like at least a few songs on there."
"We're working on thirty-two songs, and twenty-six are nearly done," he says. Of those, thirteen are slated for the final album. Among Rose's favorites are "Better", "There Was a Time" and "The Blues".
On being more like an average guy than the most mythical rock star on the planet in 2006:
"The only time people ever write about me is when I go out to a strip club, because I don't chase the paparazzi down."
On the possibility of a reunion with his former GUNS N' ROSES bandmates:
"I haven't spoken to Slash in ten years. I love the guy, I always wanted everyone to know how great he was, but.... I was just talking to Izzy the other day though."
On the possibility of the current incarnation of GUNS N' ROSES going back out on the road soon:
"Every time there's a big festival announced, we get rumored to be on there. But we'll see what happens."

allez on y croit
The New York Post's Page Six reports in its February 12, 2006 edition:
Stereo nightclub owners Barry Mullineaux and Mike Satsky were closing up their Chelsea hotspot at 5:30 a.m. the other morning when they encountered elusive GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose at the front door. The braided rocker was with bandmates and a bevy of beauties wanting to keep his 44th birthday bash going. Rose was so eager to get inside the club that he offered the owners a little bribe — an exclusive listening party for his yet-to-be released album, "Chinese Democracy". Axl dispatched his driver to retrieve the unreleased CD and the owners proceeded to play host, bartender and DJ to the posse till 8 a.m.
