The cover artwork for "Polaris", the new album from Finnish melodic metallers STRATOVARIUS, can be viewed below. Due on May 21, the CD — the group's first since the departure of guitar player and main composer Timo Tolkki — will be made available via the band's new label partner Edel under the new imprint earMUSIC outside of Asia and the band's longtime record company in Asia, JVC.

Commented keyboardist Jens Johansson: "We are very happy to have found strong label partners for the new era of STRATOVARIUS who truly believe in the band and are as enthusiastic as we are. I can't wait to hit the road again and meet all fans who supported us through all our good and bad times."

In September 2008, freed from many burdens of negativity, the band found the freedom to go into seclusion for almost a month in a cottage by the sea in a Finnish forest to relax, laugh, write songs, be creative together, and record. And they found themselves being a band reborn. The result is a melodic, powerful, fresh, tight, and technically elaborate new album.

"Polaris" was recorded in the fall 2008 at Hästholmen and 5by5 studios in Helsinki, Finland. Mixed by the longtime confidant of the band Mikko Karmila the album became another shining polar star at the Northern sky. Powerful melodies mingle with sophisticated arrangements, strong anthems stand alongside heavy songs. 11 songs full of energy, musicianship, and a positive outlook.

Vocalist Timo Kotipelto explains: "'Polaris' is a positive, powerful album that STRATOVARIUS fans all over the world are certain to take to their hearts."

Emancipation ça va être un titre autobiographique ?

Ceux qui craignaient une main-mise de Petiplato sur les compos seront rassurés. Le partage des titres est plutôt bien équlibré.

Japanese Bonus Track: Second Sight (Matias Kupiainen/Timo Kotipelto)

Without the bonus track the album is about 55 minutes long. "Second Sight" is 4 and a half minutes long, so the Japanese get about an hour of music (before you complain that the Japanese get more, remember that they have to pay almost 27 dollars for a CD even if they go straight into a store and buy it).

J'en connais pas la moitié, mais d'après ce que j'ai lu ça et là, c'est un bassiste très versatile qui joue pas mal de style différents, donc si il se met à la compo chez Strato, il peux peut-être apporter un peu de neuf.

Deep Unknown a été diffusé sur une radio finlandaise. Et franchement... c'est pas mal. C'est speed, Petiplato est pas dans les suraigues, il y a de bons effets de clavier, le duel guitare / clavier est comme avant (gros shred de la mort). J'ai vraiment hâte d'entendre l'album. V'la que je vais me remettre au speed mélo...

C'est vrai que c'est sympatoche. On sent une différence flagrante dans l'approche mélodique, peut être moins neo classique.

Mouais. Elle est où, la mélodie?
Sinon, niveau solo, c'est peut-être moins néoclassique mais tout aussi démonstratif et chiant que du temps de Tolkki.
